Outlaw country pioneer Jessi Colter is sharing another preview of her upcoming album Edge of Forever. Released Friday (October 20), “Angel In the Fire” is a stirring ode to her longtime friend Lisa, wife of Kris Kristofferson.

Backed by a rich blend of instrumentation that includes sweeping piano, driving percussion, and groovy electric guitar, the track celebrates Lisa Kristofferson’s unwavering strength and open heart.

“Guys like Kris Kristofferson and Waylon Jennings were hard to handle,” Colter explained in a statement. “I knew Lisa well, and she is a wonderful human being, so I wrote this song for her.”
Colter’s powerful song was one of the compositions that sparked producer Margo Price‘s desire to help the country legend craft a new full-length record.
“When Jessi sang ‘Standing on the Edge of Forever’ and ‘Angel in the Fire’ back to back for me, I was blown away,” Price explains. “It was such refined writing, the work of someone who had been continuously, quietly honing her craft. I knew she had to make another album and told her I would love to be a part of that experience.”
“Angel In the Fire” is the third pre-release single from Edge of Forever, Colter’s first new album in six years. Price appears on two tracks from the project, which features accompaniment by her own backing back, the Price Tags. The highly anticipated project features mixing by Colter’s son and acclaimed producer, Shooter Jennings. The 10-track LP also includes a captivating collaboration with her daughter, Jenni Eddy Jennings.

The country music legend is taking a break from the road for the remainder of 2023. Earlier this year, Colter offered fans a preview of Edge of Forever during a string of live performances, including an appearance at AmericanaFest 2023 in Nashville.
