Lainey Wilson Has Known Luke Combs “Forever”

In a Tuesday (July 23) Instagram reel, Lainey Wilson revealed that she and the “Fast Car” singer met in 2013. Just two years earlier, Wilson had left behind her tiny Louisiana hometown and moved to a camper trailer outside a recording studio in Nashville. It was in those humble dwellings that the “Hang Tight Honey” singer began writing music with Combs.

“He used to come over to my camper trailer where I lived and we’d write music,” Wilson said. The GRAMMY winner then shared an extremely 2010s selfie of the fresh-faced pair.

The “Hurricane” singer also reflected on the early days of his friendship with Wilson at the 2023 CMA Awards. Combs revealed that he met the “Watermelon Moonshine” singer at the Tin Roof on Demonbreun Street in downtown Nashville.

“That was before I even lived in Nashville, it was 2014,” the nine-time CMA Award winner told Access Hollywood. “I was making trips to and from town to kinda write… We booked songwriting sessions and she was living in a trailer behind a preschool. Like a camper trailer.”

“And here we are,” Combs added, gesturing around the star-studded room.

Lainey Thanks Her “Day Ones”

Lainey Wilson’s star keeps rising in 2024. Now, the singer-songwriter is preparing to launch the follow-up to 2022’s GRAMMY-winning Bell Bottom Country. Her fifth studio album, Whirlwind, will hit the airwaves Aug. 23.

On Tuesday (July 23), Wilson took to Instagram to reflect on hitting the one-month countdown to Whirlwind. “I’ve been thinking about my ‘day one’ people, talking about people who have stood by my side and supported me when I didn’t have anything to offer except for a few songs and a big ol’ dream,” she said.

The country star said she considers Whirlwind her best work so far, and that she had her band to thank for that: “And it only makes sense to have them play on a record named Whirlwind because they have been a part of my Whirlwind since day one.”
