It’s the day the music and tech worlds have been waiting for.
Apple is set to announce a new version of their computer operating system, OS X Lion, as well as mobile operating system iOs, and, last but not least, iCloud. This much was confirmed by Apple last week.
We’ve been writing about it for months, and now it’s finally happening. Steve Jobs is even coming off medical leave to make the keynote address at Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer’s Conference. The event is set to begin at 10 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.
The WWDC has long been the launching pad for new iPhone products from Apple, though this year’s arrival of a new iPhone is not expected until the fall, when consumers may see an iPhone 5 or 4G S. Instead, Apple’s focus for this year’s event is software.
Apple began showing previews of OS X Lion in February, revealing that Mac laptops will begin to function a lot more like iPads and iPhones.
More exciting for the music industry is the game-changing product iCloud. While details are still scant, Apple has likely secured deals with all four major labels – something Amazon and Google failed to do – and will offer some type of subscription-based streaming version of iTunes.
