We here at American Songwriter think that songs are the oxygen for your spiritual lungs. 

To that end, we wanted to share 18 new works of music to brighten your day and share the good word of composition. So, with that in mind, here are 18 songs for you today.

1. Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus is having quite a year. With her hit “Flowers” out, along with her latest LP, Endless Summer Vacation, the performer released a new “backyard” performance of her 2023 song “Jaded.” Sporting stylish shades, the singer soars, rocking and passionate.

2. Chapel Hart

Country trio Chapel Hart released its latest single this week, a part-twang, part-rag time number that’s fit to stick to your ribs. The song, of course, is also a riff on Loretta Lynn’s famous fightback track “Fist City.” Together, Chapel Hart knocks it out of the park.

3. Kassa Overall

Just signed to popular Warp Records, experimental artist Kassa Overall released his latest single, “Make My Way Back Home,” which features Nick Hakim and Theo Croker. Blending hip-hop and jazz, Overall teaches as much as he plays.

4. Alexander 23

The standout singer/songwriter Alexander 23 released his latest single and accompanying music video, “I Wanna Live Forever.” It’s a mix of pop, indie, heartfelt, and irreverent. Check out the new offering for the burgeoning artist below.

5. Black Thought

Black Thought and El Michels Affair released their latest single, “I’m Still Somehow,” ahead of their new LP, Glorious Game, which is out on April 14. The Roots emcee dances nimbly on the bluesy guitar-driven track.

The multi-platinum hit writer Bebe Rexha recently released her latest single, “Call On Me.” Check out the immersive pop hit below. It will mesmerize you as much as it will get your shoulders moving.

7. Smokey Brights

Seattle standout rock band Smokey Brights released their new single and accompanying video for the track “No Getting Out.” The group has a knack for sticky melodies, nuanced musicianship, and lovely vibes. The new song comes ahead of the band’s forthcoming LP, Levitator, out June 2. 

8. Natalie Merchant

Iconic songwriter and performer Natalie Merchant released her newest single and accompanying video for the track “Tower of Babel.” Check out the rich, jazzy new offering below. It comes ahead of her new album, Keep Your Courage, set for April 14.

9. Buzzy Lee

Buzzy Lee, the standout songwriter and daughter of famed director Steven Spielberg, released her latest single and accompanying music video for the track “When Can I.” Her sophomore album, Internal Affairs, is also out now. Check out the bright, enveloping new work below.

10. Rodrigo y Gabriela

Dynamic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela released their newest single “The Eye That Catches The Dream.” The guitar swings from genre to genre, part-meditative, part-party. The duo has a new album, In Between Thoughts…A New World, out April 21.

11. Jason Mraz

Jason Mraz released the new song “You Might Like It,” which is the second song ahead of his new album, Mythical Magical Rhythmical Radical Ride. The album is set to come out on June 23. Check out the positive-minded driving track below.

12. Emily James

Burgeoning emotive songwriter Emily James released her latest single, “Lovely Enough.” The hopeful, heart on her sleeve song is another demonstration of her talent. Check out your next fave below.

13. Black Ends

14. Spirit Award

Seattle rock band Spirit Award released its latest single this week, “Western Violence.” The new moody, rollicking track from frontman Daniel Lyon will be on the artist’s forthcoming new album, The Fear, which is out May 19. Check out the electric boogie here below.

15. Black Eyed Peas

The acclaimed pop rap group released its latest single “BAILAR CONTIGO,” featuring Daddy Yankee. The song samples “Scotsman” and is an earworm and a half. Check out the sticky track below.

16. Dropkick Murphys

The Irish rock band released its latest track “Gotta Get To Peekskill,” which features Violent Femmes. The song is the one to play at 1 a.m. as everyone sways in the bar, mugs of beer held high. It’s triumphant in the face of impossibility. The band’s new album, Okemah Rising, which features Woody Guthrie songs re-interpreted, is out on April 6.

17. The Milk Carton Kids

Lilting, pretty Americana band The Milk Carton Kids released their latest single, “Star Shine.” The Grammy-nominated duo has a new album, I Only See The Moon, out May 19.

18. Khalid

The multi-platinum singer released his latest single and accompanying music video for the track “Softest Touch.” On the song, Khalid displays his immaculate singing voice. Check it out below.
