Given his participation in the band’s formation, both Steve Harris and Maiden frontman, Bruce Dickinson paid their respects to Di’Anno. Matter of fact, days after his passing, Dickinson publicly eulogized Di’Anno at a concert in Minnesota.
Paul Di’Anno’s Family Speaks Out
Despite the outspokenness from Maiden, Di’Anno’s family hadn’t shared the official cause of death until now. Upon his death, they announced that the singer’s death was “hopefully painless” and didn’t acknowledge much else about their family member’s passing. However, on November 11, the family decided to reveal Di’ Anno’s cause of death in a Facebook post on the late singer’s account.
The post stated, “Dear fans and friends, we have received permission from Paul’s family to bring you the news of Paul’s cause of death.” “His sisters Cheryl and Michelle confirmed the following: ‘Basically he had a tear in the sac around the heart and blood has filled inside it from the main aorta artery’” and “That has caused the heart to stop.”
The statement concluded with, “Paul’s death was instantaneous and hopefully painless. May he rest in peace.” In addition to revealing Paul Di’Anno’s cause of death, the post also shed light on the tribute show that transpired over the previous weekend at Underworld Camden. Acts that performed in honor of Di’Anno included Electric Gypsy, Gypsy’s Kiss, and Hi-On Maiden.
Previous Health Complications & Legacy
Despite his death coming from heart complications, Di’ Anno suffered from several other health complications prior to his death. One of the more notable injuries he suffered was two knee replacements as a result of past motorcycle accidents. The injury and replacements left Di’ Anno wheelchair-bound and caused him to retire from touring in 2020.
Paul Di’ Anno passed away at 66-years-old in his home country of the UK. Even though his most notable accolades come from his time with Iron Maiden, Di’ Anno has also performed with the infamous metal group, Killers.
