On Wednesday (March 22), the Maryland emcee released “giftbag,” his first single of 2023. Much like his entire catalog, the song is produced by himself. Over upbeat piano and thumping 808s, veil brings a vibrant energy only seen before on songs of his like “mars” (2022) and “Drown” (2020).
The message of “giftbag” is essentially redveil telling his adversaries to stop worrying about what he has going on and to gain some self-respect. With bars like come get your lick back and boy you a hoe, better fix that, the 18-year-old is degrading the unnamed listener, but also explaining why they should stand up for themselves.

Simultaneously with the release of “Giftbag,” redveil confirmed via Twitter that this new release and his late December track “2daside” are promotional singles for a currently untitled upcoming album. Gearing up to begin his nationwide “Water 2 Fire Tour” from April to May, he explained that if fans sold out the tour, he would be more prone to releasing the impending LP sooner.
Last year, redveil not only served as the opener for Denzel Curry’s months-long Melt My Eyes Tour, but also released his debut studio album learn 2 swim on his 18th birthday (April 20). As we approach the one-year anniversary of the momentous occasion, it appears that the youngster is ready to turn it up a notch with his sophomore follow-up.
