Yet, post-holiday season numbers are showing that some retail outlets, such as U.K.-based HMV group, may have found a temporary lifeline through alternate media sales. Video games held the company afloat this past holiday season, with sales boosting 45 percent at the end of the year and resulting in the best Christmas numbers for HMV Group in five years.
