Coldplay is currently on their Music of the Spheres World Tour. The tour has already produced several memorable moments and showcased guest artists including Shawn Mendes, Michael J. Fox, and plenty more. The most recent viral moment from the tour came when the band’s frontman, Chris Martin, fell into an open trap door while addressing the crowd.

The incident took place yesterday (November 3) during the last night of the band’s four-show run at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium in Australia. During the show, Martin was telling the crowd stories from their globe-spanning tour between songs. He was walking backward while addressing the crowd when he stepped into an open trap door on the stage. Watch the viral moment below.

Luckily, Martin came out of the moment seemingly unharmed. He was even able to joke about taking the spill as he recovered. “That’s not planned,” he told the crowd. He also thanked members of the crew for catching him and helping him out of the hole. “Holy sh-t,” he added, “That was nearly a YouTube moment.” It seems that Martin underestimated the internet because clips showing his fall are on YouTube and nearly every other social media platform.
Coldplay Sees Massive Success with Music of the Spheres Tour
Chris Martin and Coldplay kicked off their Music of the Spheres Tour in March of 2022. Since then, it has become the highest-grossing rock tour in history. They broke the record in August after making more than $945 million and selling nearly nine million tickets worldwide. They’ve visited more cities and sold more tickets in the months since breaking the record.
Sir Elton John set the previous record with his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour which started in 2018 and ran through 2023. The icon’s tour grossed $939 million.
Coldplay is on track to be the first rock band in history to make a billion dollars from a single tour. However, that doesn’t mean they’re the most successful touring rock band in history. That honor goes to U2. As of last year, the band’s tours had grossed a total of $2.37 billion. They had sold nearly 27 million tickets over the years. So, the English rockers still have room to break more records with upcoming tours.
