Near the beginning of the song, he asked everyone to join in with him, which created an amazing communal performance of the song. Barring a few moments when he seemed to struggle, Nelson sounded like usually does, his vocals a bit raspy with age but endlessly recognizable.

Fans in the YouTube comments praised Nelson for his performance, sharing love and support. “What a beautiful sight! To see Willie back & On the road again. Love Willie & Lukas!” one fans wrote, praising Nelson’s son as well.

Another fan commented, “a true american treasure,” while someone else even praised Nelson’s guitar, writing, “Trigger sounds great!”

Willie Nelson Returns to the Stage After Canceling Appearances on Doctor’s Orders

Now that Willie Nelson has had time to rest and recover, he seems to be doing better. No details have been released as to what was ailing him, but fans are just happy to see him doing well. In his absence, his son Lukas Nelson stepped up and performed for eager crowds.

Lukas is in turn having a moment, as fans have noted that he sounds similar to his father and easily took to performing his hit songs. As a substitute for Willie Nelson, there’s no one better suited than his equally talented son.

On July 2, Lukas took the stage during the Outlaw Music Festival and performed his father’s 1980 hit “Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground,” and fans were quick to compare the two. “I feel like Lukas never takes his birth for granted…” one fan noted. Willie Nelson’s fans appreciated Lukas humble and selfless nature, praising the fact that he stepped up for his ailing father with no hesitation.

Now that Willie is back on stage, Lukas has taken to playing right beside him again, supporting his father musically and with his presence.
