Flores debuted “Oh Susannah” during a Grand Ole Opry performance earlier this year. More recently, he teased the song on Twitter. Now, it’s available to stream across all streaming platforms. The song stems from the singer/songwriter’s genuine desire to help people with his music but realizing that he can’t pour from an empty cup.
“The story behind the song is just me having to take a mental break in February and coming back to it all realized that I need to take care of myself before I can even think about taking care of others,” Flores shared in a statement. “That’s all I ever wanted to do. So, I did have to take a step back and this song is an apology from me to my fans,” he added.
Wyatt Flores Speaks on “Oh Susannah” at the Grand Ole Opry
In July, Wyatt Flores performed at the Grand Ole Opry and debuted “Oh Susannah” during his short set. Before playing the song, he talked about taking a mental health break earlier in the year. He said he had to step away from music for a multitude of reasons including “feeling the weight of the world and trying to help people,” while feeling like he wasn’t doing enough.
“As cool as it is that I get to do this as my job and the music that I portray, it gets to save lives. There’s also the dark side of it where you don’t know if that song kept them on earth just a couple days longer,” he told the Opry House audience. “I didn’t write that song ‘Please Don’t Go’ for everybody out there in the world. I wrote it because of the situation I was in with the girl that I loved. But this song is for y’all. ‘Oh Susannah’ is you. I wrote this for you. And I’m sorry,” he explained.
