ARTIST: Ben Gilmer

SONG: “Across the Mountains”

HOMETOWN: Lebanon, Virginia

CURRENT LOCATION: Morgantown, West Virginia

AMBITIONS: Improve my community, avoid messing up my children too much, stay in touch, write more music

TURN-OFFS: Meanness

TURN-ONS: Kindness, quirks

DREAM GIG: Sitting in with Paw for one more of his senior citizen picnic gigs.

FAVORITE LYRIC: “Well, I sat there at the table and I acted real naive….For I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve”. From “Spanish Pipedream” by John Prine.

SONG I WISH I WROTE: “Dry County Blues” by Angaleena Presley

5 PEOPLE I’D MOST LIKE TO HAVE DINNER WITH: My granddaddy and all of his brothers.

MY FAVORITE CONCERT EXPERIENCE: Darrell Scott solo at the Down Home in Johnson City, Tennessee.

I WROTE THIS SONG BECAUSE…A bunch of my buddies got jobs in the coal mines or with power companies after high school, while many of their significant others went off to college.  They were always trying to get them back home to visit and entertain them with our tried and true country boy antics. But some of the college gals were no longer interested in such shenanigans, seeing as how they were all fancy college goers and all. This is a lighthearted tune that lovingly pokes fun of those days.
