5 THINGS EVERY MAN SHOULD OWN: Pocket knife, tools, books, one good suit, passport.

THE BOOK THAT CHANGED MY LIFE: Is in the pile on the nightstand still waiting to be read. But “Blink” was pretty good.

I NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT: wallet, optimism

I WROTE THIS SONG: and performed it for my parents’ fiftieth anniversary. “Fifty” celebrates the virtues of a rewarding long-term relationship. It is a story told from the perspective of a younger couple looking forward to a long future together. Who could sing a song like this with credibility? Someone like Mr. Milsap, married 47 years and counting; or Mr. Strait, 40 years and counting; or plenty of others, younger or older, who are on that path in years or attitude. From a production standpoint, it was a thrill to have Hank Singer grace “Fifty” with his fiddle virtuosity and Greg Foresman anchor the song with his signature lead guitar part. Special thanks to producer Chip Hardy, engineer Tom Pouchot, and the singer Adam Stone (someone should sign him!) for bringing “Fifty” to life.

American Songspace and Martin Guitar are giving away a year-long, $20,000 publishing contract with HoriPro Entertainment Group. Visit here for details on how to enter your songs to become a “Professional Songwriter.”
