Kid Cudi Calls Out Playboi Carti for Not Clearing Their Collaboration for Release

For weeks now, Kid Cudi has been reminding fans that his next single is set to release on June 2. Currently untitled, the song will be the lead promotional track for Cudi’s upcoming ninth studio album, which is also slated to come out at some point in 2023 and has not been given a name.

Last night (May 14), Cudi decided to reveal some information about the impending LP, as fans continued to speculate on Twitter about its track list and title. Most notably, he responded to a tweet asking about his unreleased song “Solo Dolo IV,” which features Playboi Carti. Unfortunately for his supporters, Cudi announced the song will not make the track list because Carti will not allow for it to be released.

“He wont clear it which is very weak,” Cudi replied. “So yea it wont be on there. Which is ok becuz the shit I have on this album fuckin smacks and ur faces will melt.”

While on tour last year, Cudi previewed “Solo Dolo IV” multiple times, causing excitement to build around the track. Cudi and Carti have collaborated once before as well, as Cudi offered a feature verse for Carti’s song “M3tamorphosis” off his 2020 sophomore album Whole Lotta Red. Check out the video below of Kid Cudi previewing “Solo Dolo IV (feat. Playboi Carti)” at a recent concert.

“Solo Dolo IV” would see a continuation of the song series Cudi started with “Solo Dolo” on Man On the Moon: The End of Day (2009), and most recently added to with “Solo Dolo, Pt. III” on Man On the Moon III: The Chosen (2020).

Although the Cudi-Carti collaboration will not see the light of day, Cudi insisted that other exciting joint tracks will be included on the album. In a later tweet Sunday, he explained that songs with both Travis Scott and Young Thug will be on the track list.

“This is fact we have trav and thugger,” he said.

Cudi and Scott’s collaboration will be their first since their 2020 track “THE SCOTTS,” meant to be the lead single for their joint album under the same name. Although Cudi insisted THE SCOTTS had been scrapped in December of last year, he revived hope for the LP at a recent concert in April.

Regardless, Cudi’s solo album on the way will be his first since his 2022 project Entergalactic, which coincided with the release of his animated Netflix special under the same name. For his upcoming effort, though, Cudi recently shared in March via Instagram video that he believes it is “gonna be the album of the year.”

“I’ve never made a project this powerful before in my life,” he said.
