At the moment, Lil Baby is prepping to hit the road for his upcoming It’s Only Us Tour with GloRilla, The Kid LAROI, and more. Slated to begin in late July, the tour is in promotion of Baby’s most recent 2022 studio album It’s Only Me. However, before embarking on these 30+ dates, Baby decided to offer his thoughts on the Gunna-Young Thug-YSL situation.

This week, a clip surfaced on Twitter of Baby filming a new music video. But, the lyrics on the song see Baby send subliminal jabs at Gunna, who notably took a plea deal to avoid prison time last December in connection to the racketeering case being brought against Thug and their label Young Stoner Life.
“N****s taking pleas, I know that Slime ain’t happy,” Baby raps.
Examining this, Baby refers to Thug as “Slime,” as he has often been called King Slime throughout his career, as well as naming a prominent album series of his Slime Season. While Gunna aimed multiple times to disprove this, Baby asserts that the plea deal Gunna took could hurt Thug’s chances at freedom, as he currently awaits trial at the moment and faces eight different counts in the case.
Lil Baby is now the latest of Gunna’s former friends and collaborators to publicly distance themselves from him. What makes this instance most notable though, compared to others who have similarly dissed Gunna like Lil Durk, is that Baby and Gunna had an immensely strong bond, evident on their 2018 joint album Drip Harder, as well as collaborative smash hits like “Drip Too Hard,” “Oh Okay” with Young Thug, and “Never Recover” with Drake.
Baby’s music video surfacing comes just before Young Thug is set to drop his new album Business Is Business from behind bars, and just a few days after Gunna put out his comeback album a Gift & a Curse, where he shows affinity and solidarity for Thug multiple times.
It’s not known what Gunna’s relationship with Thug is like at the moment. But, the entire case against YSL has clearly and sadly derailed multiple fruitful alliances in the hip-hop industry in just over a year.
