Pandora, the personalized streaming service, will be closing up shop in the U.K.

Unlike similar websites, Pandora has favored copyright-holders and paid licensing fees. Unfortunately, their ad-supported revenue model cannot meet the new licensing fees demanded by the PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited) and MCPS-PRS Alliance (Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society and the Performing Right Society).

Co-founder, Tim Westergren, informed U.K. users via e-mail that on January 15 their service will be cut off. Pandora will continue to remain open for all U.S. users and IP addresses.
