That’s why this survivor is jumping ship from big-wig country label MCA Nashville and signing on with Valory Music Co., a sister label to Big Machine Records that only just reached the first anniversary since its inception. Even for Valory’s success in the last year from a multi-platinum record from Jewel and three-week No. 1 single from Jimmy Wayne, the real draw for Reba is CEO Scott Borchetta.
The ’90s were undoubtedly good for Reba. Throwing together what seemed to be an interminable string of No. 1 singles since her memorable Rumor Has It, McEntire achieved much of her status while teaming with Borchetta back in their heyday together at MCA Nashville. This move, however, sees the duo reunited and ready to hit the ground running. The superstar’s first single for Valory is set to hit in spring of 2009, followed by her debut studio album with the label that summer. Whether or not Reba will ever reach the upper echelons of success as she did during her formative years with Borchetta is yet to be seen, of course, but top of the charts or not, this is one artist who’s not about to slow down.
