Slayer Announce First UK Headlining Shows in Six Years

Slayer will likely never tour or record new music again. However, that won’t stop the legendary thrash metal band from playing one-off shows from time to time. Recently the band announced a pair of summer shows in the United Kingdom. It will be their only European headlining shows of the year and their first time to play overseas since their 2019 farewell tour.

Slayer will be part of the lineup at Back to the Beginning on July 5 in Birmingham, England. The show will feature a reunion of the original Black Sabbath lineup. Additionally, it will be Ozzy Osbourne’s final live performance. Mastodon, Metallica, Lamb of God, and many more metal A-listers will also perform that day.

Earlier today, Slayer announced two headlining UK shows for July. They’ll play in Cardiff, Wales on July 3 at Blackwater Fields. On July 6, they’ll play Finsbury Park in London. The bill will also feature Amon Amart, Anthrax, Mastodon, Hatebreed, and Neckbreakker.

Kerry King Says Slayer Won’t Tour Again

The demand for Slayer shows is still high. However, fans shouldn’t expect them to launch a full-scale tour or record any new music. Guitarist Kerry King addressed the future of the band in a recent interview.

“You know, we’re never going to tour again. We’re never going to make a record again,” he said. “Mark my words, we’re never going to make a record again, we’re never going to tour again,” he reiterated.

While many bands will go on a “farewell tour” just to come back a few years later to make another album or launch another trek, Slayer is all but finished after their 2019 farewell tour. “That was the last thing. We said, ‘This is our final tour.’ It took us five years to come and say, ‘Hey, here’s a couple of shows, five-year anniversary.’ I think it’s really cool,” King said. “A lot of fans are into it. There’s going to be haters that say, ‘Yeah, they’re retired. Whatever.’ This is all about celebration,” he said of the handful of shows they played in 2024.

King is currently focusing on his solo project. His first solo album From Hell I Rise dropped last year.
