SZA Welcomes Justin Bieber on Acoustic Remix of “Snooze”

When R&B sensation SZA released her sophomore studio album SOS last December, the album’s eighth song of 25, “Snooze,” ascended to a No. 7 peak on the Billboard Hot 100, one of seven songs in her career to crack the top 10. To further promote the song as Summer 2023 winds down, SZA employed the help of fellow chart-topper Justin Bieber, who brought more than one new element to the track.

At midnight ET on Friday (September 15), SZA released an acoustic remix of “Snooze” featuring brand new vocals from Bieber. Though he does not write or perform an original verse for the track, he does take over one of SZA’s verses on the song to sing himself, while also aiding the songstress in crooning the I can’t lose, when I’m with you chorus.

Bieber and SZA’s collaboration comes just three weeks after Bieber made a cameo in the “Snooze” music video on August 25, as it also included appearances from superstar pop producer Benny Blanco and actors Woody McClain and Young Mazino. In the video, similarly to McClain and Mazino, Bieber plays a love interest for SZA, mirroring the lyrics of the song that touch on the fleeting feelings that come with intense romance.

Last week, SZA announced that she has a deluxe version of SOS on the way titled Lana. And though the “Snooze” acoustic remix may not land on Lana, its release is indicative of SZA is gearing up for an active fall season.

“So the deluxe is like a whole ‘nother album, and it’s called Lana,” she told the crowd at her impromptu concert in Brooklyn on September 8. “It’s seven to 10 songs, and it’ll be out this fall.”

12 hours after her new Bieber collaboration released, SZA also featured on Drake’s new song “Slime You Out,” the lead single for his upcoming September 22 album For All The Dogs. So, as we’re still less than a year removed from SZA putting out her now-beloved second album, it’s clear that she’s already making preparations to return in the very near future.
