When Metallica formed in 1981, 40 years ago in Los Angeles, there’s no way the members could have known what would be in store for the group over the next four decades and beyond.
Now, in 2022, it’s safe to say that the band is one of the two or three biggest names in music, along with acts like the Foo Fighters and Beyonce. Not to be too hyperbolic, but Metallica is doing incredible things these days.

The band has been covered by Miley Cyrus and Phoebe Bridgers within weeks. They just streamed a 40th-anniversary concert and, if that wasn’t enough, earned an official day dedicated to the group in San Francisco.
