Well-known tourman Will Hoge unloads the powerful combination of reality and soul on his newest studio album, Draw the Curtains. Simplicity is a moveable force in songs like "I'm Sorry Now" and "Washed By the Water." While his sound remains an expression of all-American rock and roll, Draw the Curtains possesses a solid alt. country theme, likely enhanced by producer Ken Croomer (drummer for Uncle Tupelo/Wilco). Each track seems to work together to form a cohesive compilation, but "Dirty Little War," a song about the pangs of divorce is, by far, the sparkling gem of the album with its clean, easy guitar/accordion combo and straightforward yet emotive lyrics, "So I'll take back my heart and I will give you back your name/In 90 days a judge downtown will take back 20 years of pain." Hoge makes this album shine by merging his secret weapon-his signature, raspy voice-with hearty, raw material.
