Creating an album is a hard task. The task becomes even harder when you have several different opinions, all overlapping one another. Tiffs between band members are not uncommon in the studio, but they can sometimes lead to bigger, more substantial quarrels. Check out three albums that broke the bands that made them, below.

The Wall – Pink Floyd
Roger Waters kept his bandmates on a short leash while recording The Wall. All in all, his strict vision produced a timeless record–so the ends could justify the means. However, his direction didn’t play very well with his bandmates. Though it would be a minute before Waters officially headed out on his own, this album likely introduced him to a world in which the only opinion that mattered was his own–something a solo career can offer but time in a band cannot.
Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home?
Come on, now
I hear you’re feeling down
Well, I can ease your pain
Tango in the Night – Fleetwood Mac
Next up on our list of albums that broke the bands who made them, we have Tango in the Night. While Rumours saw Fleetwood Mac in the midst of an interconnected fight with one another, their creative drive was stronger than their turmoil. That was less so the case with Tango in the Night. Though the album eventually got made, the lack of compromise between the members nearly had it left on the cutting room floor. Lindsey Buckingham felt the weight of this frustrating album so much, that he decided to announce his departure from the band.
If I live to see the seven wonders
I’ll make a path to the rainbow’s end
I’ll never live to match the beauty again
The rainbow’s edge
The Spaghetti Incident – Guns N’ Roses
Though The Spaghetti Incident didn’t mark an official breakup of Guns N’ Roses’, it did show the cracks enough to prompt a lineup change. The band decided to create an album comprised entirely of covers. A decision like that would be controversial for any band, especially one that had wowed with original material up to this point. You can tell that their years together were starting to weigh on the band while listening to this album. It’s really no wonder that they had some personnel changes in the wake of this release.
I got a feeling inside of me
It’s kind of strange, like a stormy sea
I don’t know why, don’t know why
These kind of things got to be
I got a new rose, I got it good
Yes, I knew that I always would
I can’t stop to mess around
I got a brand new rose in town
