AmericanaFest 2015: SoundExchange Master Class Seminar

Videos by American Songwriter

During AmericanaFest 2015, Barry LeVine and Linda Bloss-Baum of SoundExchange offered a master class seminar on the non-profit performing rights organization that collects and distributes royalties for non-interactive digital transmissions, including Internet and satellite radio plays.

While many artists are already members of BMI or ASCAP, SoundExchange has a different focus on royalty collection that works in conjunction with those organizations. Last year alone, they distributed $773 billion to artists and songwriters from airplay on more 2,500 online streaming services including Pandora, Sirius XM and iHeartRadio.

“This is a whole different ‘pot of gold’ that you might not have been aware of before,” Bloss-Baum says.
