Dan + Shay propose “We Should Get Married” in their new song. The catchy tune blends what Dan + Shay do best—ballads and wedding songs. They nod to this fact in the music video that opens with Shay Mooney saying, “Everybody thinks we’re just the ballad guys, the first dance guys, it’s so frustrating.” “We don’t need a DJ to get the people out on the dance floor, we got songs for that,” bandmate Dan Smyers responds as he fixes his tuxedo. “I think we should just go rogue and play the song,” Mooney suggests.

The song starts off ballad-esque as Mooney sits at the piano singing the first verse filled with drunk confidence as he suggests that he and his lover head down the altar, even though they just met. This builds up to the anthemic chorus that turns into a fast-paced, fiddle-heavy country ditty, picking up the energy as Mooney sings, We should get married / Take it out to Vegas / Find a little chapel / Hire us an Elvis.

“Wait, so is it a ballad or nah?” the duo captions the video on Instagram. “Y’ALL WANTED A WEDDING SONG,” Smyers comments on another clip. “Married” is the latest teaser from their forthcoming album, Bigger Houses. “Married” was preceded by the album’s lead single “Save Me the Trouble,” which is currently climbing up the Top 20 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
But there’s a chance the album never would’ve been made. The duo shared a video in July 2023 talking about the struggles they faced coming off The (Arena) Tour in 2021, so much so that they didn’t speak for months and nearly broke up the band. “I was in the lowest low of my entire life,” Smyers said. “Came off the road and I was like, ‘Man, I fucking hate music. I’m ready to quit.'”
“I could feel the separation and I think there was little things between you and I that we never talked about and it was affecting everything, not just our band, our marriages, everything,” added Mooney. “I was in a really dark place.”
Bigger Houses follows Dan + Shay’s 2021 album, Good Things, which spawned multiple hits, including their collaboration with Justin Bieber on “10,000 Hours.” Bigger Houses is set for release on September 15.
