During his set, Drake told his Detroit audience “I’m gonna give away one thing for you tonight, because I got a lot of love for Detroit. So I’m gonna have to tell you that me and Nicki Minaj did our first song together in, like, a really long time. I got a lot of love for her.”

It is not currently clear when For All the Dogs will be released, but Drake previously informed his audience at a Chicago show last week that the album will be dropping “soon.” At the same concert, Drake told the audience, “I look around at all these faces, I know it’s summertime, I gotta give you s–t! I don’t know about these guys that go away three, four, five years and wanna chill out and all that s–t. That’s not me.”

Drake and Minaj have reportedly been close friends for years since both artists were signed to Young Money Entertainment at one point in time. The two rappers have collaborated on songs before, with the most recent collaboration being Nicki Minaj’s 2021 track “Seeing Green,” which also featured Lil Wayne.

Drake and Minaj’s other musical collaborations include Drake’s “Up All Night” and “I’m So Proud of You. Drake was also featured on Minaj’s “Moment 4 Life” and “Truffle Butter.”

Despite some spats that the artists have had, Drake and Minaj have maintained a tight friendship. In 2010, Drake told MTV, “Me and Nicki have a really playful relationship. When I was on tour … I saw Nicki for the first time and, like, literally fell in love. She had this snap-back hat on that said ‘Minaj.’ She used to wear that every single day. She was like a theater student and she was so cold at rapping.

“I remember one of the first nights that we were out in Miami and I went to Jerry’s [Famous Deli]. I was like [to Minaj], ‘You want food, you hungry?,’ and she was like, ‘Yeah, I want some food.’ I was like, ‘I’m in, we gon’ eat food together,’” Drake added. “I came to her door and she took the food and shut the door in my face! I was just like, ‘Man, this is gonna be a long road for us.’ I’ve always really, actually, really had a crush on her, always really loved her, and she’s always just looked at me as, like, her little brother.”
