When it comes to live music events and safety matters that could potentially become life or death, organizers have to make decisions at a moment’s notice, which is exactly what happened when Dua Lipa shared a “heartbroken” announcement about her tour stop in Indonesia the day before the show.

The English pop star planned to perform at Jakarta’s 16,500-capacity Indonesia Arena. However, when event organizers discovered issues with the stage’s structural integrity, Dua Lipa’s team had to make the difficult decision to postpone the performance indefinitely.
Dua Lipa Shares Announcement On Social Media
Dua Lipa shared her disappointing announcement on social media ahead of her November 9, 2024, performance in Indonesia’s capital city as part of her “Radical Optimism” tour. “I’m heartbroken to share that I won’t be able to perform in Jakarta this Saturday,” she wrote, per Rolling Stone. “I am here in your amazing country and ready to perform. But I am gutted to share that it has been determined that it is not safe for the performance to carry on due to safety issues with the staging.”
“I was so looking forward to this night, and it truly pains me that we cannot perform for you all, especially after such a long time since my last performance in Jakarta,” she continued. “I love you all and truly can’t wait to be back together in the same room with, you singing and dancing our hearts out as soon as possible.”
TEM Presents and PK Entertainment, the event organizers, also released a statement, saying they made their decision “with the utmost care and consideration for the safety of both the audiences and artist. Despite Dua Lipa’s readiness to perform and the whole team’s diligent efforts to resolve critical production issues related to the stage structure provided by Mata Elang Productions, it is not safe.”
As disappointing as Dua Lipa’s announcement was, given the long history of tragic deaths related to unsafe stage structures, it’s clear that the better option was to err on the side of caution. Dua Lipa continues her “Radical Optimism” tour with a November 13 spot in the Philippines and two back-to-back shows in Tokyo on November 16 and 17.
