Ranking the Best Songs by “The Ten Worst Bands of the Nineties”

A while back, Rolling Stone polled readers to determine which 10 bands from the 1990s were the most hated of the bunch. Their list was both surprising and very not surprising at the same time. I think the bands listed deserve some love, so I made a list of my own. Let’s dive into the best songs by 10 of the most hated bands from the 1990s!

Keep in mind that this list is simply a matter of opinion. Though, I’d love to hear what your top picks are from these 10 “hated” bands!

1. “Crash Into Me” by Dave Matthews Band

Some people might dunk on Dave Matthews Band, but “Crash Into Me” is still a soft rock bop in my book. It made it far on the Billboard charts in the US, and it even nabbed a Grammy nom back in 1998.

2. “The Sign” by Ace Of Base

There’s a reason why “The Sign” by Ace Of Base topped the pop charts back in 1993. It’s a solid bop, and it’s still quite memorable today, even if you don’t necessarily remember Ace Of Base as a band.

3. “Two Princes” by Spin Doctors

This song broke the Top 10, and “Two Princes” is still considered to be Spin Doctors’ most successful song of their career.

4. “Glycerine” by Bush

Diehard fans of Bush might disagree with me on this one. However, on more than one occasion, I’ve cried to this song. Alone, of course. It’s not an easy admission. I’m giving the top spot to “Glycerine”.

5. “Let Her Cry” by Hootie And The Blowfish

“Let Her Cry” by Hootie And The Blowfish has to be the band’s most emotional songs, and Darius Rucker’s delivery is really something. Fun Fact: This song was inspired by “She Talks To Angels” by The Black Crowes.

6. “Territorial Pissings” by Nirvana

I don’t get why anyone would hate Nirvana. However, the people polled by Rolling Stone seemed to think they were worthy of a spot on their list. A ton of songs could be considered the grunge outfit’s best, but I’m partial to “Territorial Pissings”. That intro is on another level.

7. “MMMBop” by Hanson

I will accept no Hanson slander. This boy band actually made decent, not-overproduced music compared to their teen pop contemporaries. “MMMBop” is still a joy to hear, at least to me.

8. “Break Stuff” by Limp Bizkit

Limp Bizkit’s nu-metal works weren’t loved by everyone. I’m not the biggest nu-metal fan myself. However, if you’re in a bad mood, “Break Stuff” might just pull you out of it. Just don’t, you know, break anything.

9. “How You Remind Me” by Nickelback

If you were around in the late 90s or early 00s, you might share a hatred of Nickelback with quite a few people. However, “How You Remind Me” is a really well-done tune for a post-grunge outfit. This song didn’t come out in the 90s, but it’s one of the best to come from a band that kicked off in that particular decade.

10. “One Last Breath” by Creed

Here’s another song from a 90s band that didn’t come out in the 90s. “One Last Breath” by Creed has to be one of the best songs by one of the most hated bands of the 1990s. They really popped off with this one. I’ll be vulnerable and admit that when it comes on, I won’t immediately turn it off.
