Trucks and Small Towns: 4 of the Most “Country” Country Songs

Those who don’t tout themselves country fans often make fun of the “predictable” nature of country music. Trucks. Small towns. There are familiar faces that pop up time and time again throughout the genre. However, we enjoy the accouterments that come along with our favorite country songs. Find four of the most “country” country songs from 2000-2010, below.

“Dirt Road Anthem” (Jason Aldean)

There is nothing that screams “small town” more than chillin’ on a dirt road. Jason Aldean knows this well, having released an entire song about it. “Dirt Road Anthem” is country through and through. Few country songs from this era are more tailor-made for small-town inhabitants. It’s really no wonder it became such a hit. Aldean certainly knew his target audience.

Yeah I’m chillin’ on a dirt road
Laid back swervin’ like I’m George Jones
Smoke rollin’ out the window
An ice cold beer sittin’ in the console
Memory lane up in the headlights
It’s got me reminiscin’ on them good times
I’m turning off of real life drivin’, that’s right
I’m hittin’ easy street on mud tires

“Rough & Ready” (Trace Adkins)

People who grow up in small towns are different than those that were reared in cities. Not to say one is superior, but there is a marked difference. If you ask Trace Adkins, that difference is a “rough and ready” personality. In his song of the same name, Adkins sings about growing up tough thanks to his country roots. We’re sure many country fans would agree with this assertion.

Cold beer, hot wings
Wranglers, Skoal ring
Get just what you see
Gun rack, ball cap
Don’t take no crap
Ain’t a pretty boy-toy
I’ll rock you steady
Rough and ready

“Mayberry” (Rascal Flatts)

Rascal Flatts sings about small-town charm in “Mayberry.” They sing about the comforting nature of growing up around familiar faces and slow mornings on the porch, picking at a guitar. It’s an idyllic picture to be sure. The way the band sings about it in this country song would warm the heart of even the most intense city slicker.

I miss Mayberry
Sittin’ on the porch, drinkin’ ice-cold cherry coke
Where everything is black and white
Pickin’ on the six string
People pass by and you call them by their first name
Watchin’ the clouds roll by

“Boondocks” (Little Big Town)

Little Big Town laid out the perfect small-town itinerary in “Boondocks”: You get a line, I get a pole
We’ll go fishing in the crawfish hole / Five card poker on Saturday night / Church on Sunday morning
. We can’t argue with the schedule in this country song. We’d bet many country fans’ weekends have looked something like this a time or two…

I feel no shame, I’m proud of where I came from
I was born and raised in the boondocks
One thing I know, no matter where I go
I keep my heart and soul in the boondocks
