18 Dead After Nightclub Roof Collapse, Singer Among Hundreds Injured

With the Jet Set nightclub a hotspot in Santo Domingo, fans of Rubby Pérez traveled to the area to see the singer perform on stage. Excited, fans packed the nightclub, expecting an unforgettable night. Little did they know, tragedy would strike when the roof of the nightclub collapsed on the crowd. While authorities quickly worked to find survivors and offer medical attention, the scene was utter chaos as family and friends looked for their loved ones, causing even President Luis Abinader to travel to the area.

As the Dominican merengue singer took the stage, fans cheered for what they believed was going to be a night of great music, strong drinks, and more than enough dancing. But when the roof collapsed, the scene turned into a frantic search party. With authorities working around the clock to find survivors, the incident already claimed the lives of 18 people. And over 120 others were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, per Live Mint.

Releasing a statement about the roof collapsing, the director of the Center of Emergency Operations, Juan Manuel Ménde, wasn’t giving up hope when it came to finding those still trapped under the rubble. “We presume that many of them are still alive, and that is why the authorities here will not give up until not a single person remains under that rubble.”

As for President Abinader, he also released a statement reading, “We deeply regret the tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set nightclub. We have been following the incident minute by minute since it occurred.” He also added that rescue agencies worked tirelessly to help find those people still missing. 

Besides offering his support, President Abinader also helped calm the growing crowd as he offered hugs and support to the families still missing loved ones. For one official, he called on onlookers to step up and help search for those who might still be trapped. “You have to cooperate with authorities, please. We are removing people.” 

With the story still developing, Pérez was also injured during the collapse. As more information comes out, the cause of the incident remained unclear as the authorities focused locating every person who attended the performance.
