3 Pairs of Classic Rock Artists Who Dated But Never Married

When love is in the air, you just have to go with it. Maybe it will last a lifetime, or maybe it will last a day. But if you don’t try for it, you’ll never know. But this isn’t just true for everyday folks, it’s true for artists and musicians—even those who are household names. Everyone needs a little love and tenderness, after all, right? Even when you’re a star songwriter and classic rock performer.

Here below, we wanted to explore that very fact. Let’s check out the romantic lives of some of the best-known musicians of the 20th century. Indeed, these are three pairs of classic rock artists who dated but never married each other.

Bob Dylan and Joan Baez

When the Minnesota-born Bob Dylan decided to move to New York City to pursue a music career, he found more than perhaps he bargained for. Enter: the folk goddess of the 1960s, Joan Baez, with her powerful yet fluttering voice. Together, they made for a folk music power couple. Dylan wrote songs for her, and she sang them with the voice of an angel. The two reportedly dated for about three years, from around 1961 until around 1965. But while short, their legacy lives on in our hearts.

Robert Plant and Patti Griffin

Two of the best-known singers of the 20th century, Robert Plant and Patti Griffin, got together thanks to Plant’s band, Band Of Joy. That led to the two getting romantically involved around 2010. Their relationship continued for a handful of years, and they made lovely music together, which is not unlike the music he makes with Americana star Alison Krauss today. Around 2014, Plant and Griffin split, and while there were rumors they had married, those were unfounded.

Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks

Ah, Fleetwood Mac. The band full of classic rock musicians who never married and some that did, and some that also got divorced. The British-born band formed in the 1960s but rose to popularity in the 1970s, and they had more drama than a high school play and more romances than a Netflix reality show. Originally, singer Stevie Nicks joined the band with her beau, guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. But that relationship fizzled, and she had an intense love affair with the band’s Mick Fleetwood. At the time, Mick was still married to his wife, Jenny Boyd. All this drama, though, led to some of the band’s most popular songs, including “One On One” and “Beauty And The Beast.” Oh, boy!
