3 Stevie Wonder Songs That Still Make Me Want To Dance Today

Itโ€™s hard not to tap your foot to most of the songs by Stevie Wonder. But then there are some that are so good, they almost require a dance floor, including these three tunes, which still make me want to dance today.

โ€œSuperstitionโ€

There may not be a song that almost requires dancing more than โ€œSuperstitionโ€.  A No.1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, Wonder is the sole writer of the song.

The song says, โ€œVery superstitious / Writing’s on the wall / Very superstitious / Ladder’s ’bout to fall / Thirteen month old baby / Broke the looking glass / Seven years of bad luck / The good things in your past.”

โ€œSuperstitionโ€ is part of Talking Book. The record also includes โ€œYou Are The Sunshine Of My Lifeโ€, another chart-topping single for Wonder.

Wonder later said that he wrote โ€œSuperstitionโ€ because he is not at all superstitious.

โ€œI think that the reason that I talked about being superstitious is because I really didnโ€™t believe in it,โ€ he tells NPR. โ€œI didnโ€™t believe in the different things that people say about breaking glasses or the number 13 is bad luck and all those various things. And to those, I said, โ€˜When you believe in things you donโ€™t understand, then you suffer.โ€™โ€

โ€œIsnโ€™t She Lovelyโ€

In 1976, Wonder released โ€œIsnโ€™t She Lovelyโ€. The song, written by Wonder, is part of his Songs In The Key Of Life album.

Wonder wrote โ€œIsnโ€™t She Lovelyโ€ as a tribute to his daughter, Aisha. โ€œIsnโ€™t She Lovelyโ€ says in part, โ€œIsn’t she pretty? / Truly the angel’s best / Boy, I’m so happy / We have been heaven blessed / I can’t believe what God has done / Through us, He’s given life to one / But isn’t she lovely? Made from love.”

โ€œIsnโ€™t She Lovelyโ€ was not originally intended as a single. The album version of the song is more than six minutes long.

โ€œSigned, Sealed, Delivered (Iโ€™m Yours)โ€

Wonder wrote โ€œSigned, Sealed, Delivered (Iโ€™m Yours)โ€ with Syreeta Wright, whom he was married to from 1970 to 1972, plus his mother, Lula Mae Hardaway, and Lee Garrett.

Out in 1970, the song became a six-week No. 1 hit on the R&B charts,.โ€œSigned, Sealed, Delivered (Iโ€™m Yours)โ€  says, โ€œHere I am, baby, oh, oh / Signed, sealed, delivered, I’m yours / You got my future in your hands  Ah, here I am, baby, ah, ah / Signed, sealed, delivered, I’m yours / You got my future in your hands, hey.”

Peter Frampton includes a version of this song on his 1977Iโ€™m In You album. It became a Top 15 hit for him.
