If you love classic rock supergroups, the following five outfits might not be much of a surprise. But for the uninitiated, the following bands are probably a total mystery. At least a couple of these supergroups were new to me, personally. Without further ado, let’s look at a few underrated rock supergroups worth revisiting for classic rock fans!

SuperHeavy
I’d say that SuperHeavy is probably the most well-known entry on this list. Still, not everybody knows that The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger once formed a supergroup with Dave Stewart of Eurythmics. The band also featured the talents of reggae icon Damian Marley, Grammy-winning singer Joss Stone, and composer A.R. Rahman.
The group was formed when The Stones took a break around 2009, and SuperHeavy only released one album in 2011. The mix of rock and Indian classical music actually slaps.
Storm Corrosion
If you’re a fan of metal or rock music, you might already be aware of this entry on our list of underrated rock supergroups. Storm Corrosion was made up of Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth and Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree.
The band only lasted from 2010 to 2012, and the members weren’t interested in promoting themselves, so it’s not shocking that you might not have heard of them. Still, their sole 2012 album is an orchestra-meets-ambient treat. Fun fact: Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater and Avenged Sevenfold almost joined this supergroup.
Badlands
Did you know that Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Jake E. Lee and former Black Sabbath members Eric Singer and Ray Gillen once formed a supergroup with Surgical Steel’s Greg Chaisson? Naturally, you might be expecting pure heavy metal to come out of this group. However, the band focused more on blues and hard rock with heavy metal elements.
Sadly, the group only released three albums before calling it quits for good.
The Dead Weather
Jack White of The White Stripes, Jack Lawrence of The Raconteurs, and Alison Mosshart of The Kills once formed a supergroup called The Dead Weather. They were insanely good, especially after they incorporated the talents of Queens Of The Stone Age’s Dean Fertita.
This bluesy garage rock outfit has been on hiatus since 2015, but I’d love to see more from them someday.
Arcadea
This entry on our list of underrated rock supergroups is a synth-metal delight made up of Mastodon’s Brann Dailor, Zruda’s Core Atoms, and Raheem Amlani.
They’re still together today, though they only released one self-titled album back in 2017. Atoms and Dailor previously worked together in the prog-funk outfit Gaylord.
