Inspired by ‘80s rock, fuzzy riffs, and dive bar vibes, “Look My Way” showcases the range of Nether Hour. The Austin, Texas-based three-piece—Bobby, Bercy, and Bishop—sat down with American Songwriter to talk about the new single ahead of our exclusive premiere.
Nether Hour on “Look My Way”
If you find yourself enjoying “Look My Way” more than the rest of Nether Hour’s catalog. You’re not alone. “‘Look My Way’ is my favorite song we’ve released to date,” Bishop said. “Little bit of that 80’s pop rock energy and a guitar solo from Bobbo that sounds like a chainsaw growling through the speakers trying to cut you like Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” he added, describing the song’s sound.
“We used a vintage fuzz pedal that the Rolling Stones actually used back in the day and we had to bang on it to get it to work, it was barely hanging on. Eventually, we knocked it hard enough and it stayed on through a whole take. Took our tracks over to the boys at 601 and we added some fun harmony layers, drops, and slowed it down like 4bpm so good luck playing along,” he added.
Bercy offered some insight into the writing process behind the song. “We wrote it in our second Nether Hour house. It was a duplex. Bishop came up with the opening riff on me and Bob’s side of the house,” he recalled. “It’s a tune about that spark the first time you make magical eye contact with someone you’ve been getting frisky with and you know it’s going down that night. Special thanks to Forest Cazayoux, Oliver Ocean & the dudes at 601 Studios,” he added.
Bobby laid out how “Look My Way” differs from the rest of their output. “It is definitely different from anything we’ve put out before,” he said of the song. “It for sure captures what we do live—going on jam tangents and leaning into whatever the vibe is, whether it’s ‘70s, Louisiana grooves, blues, or country. This one’s very rock-influenced. We put a twist on our sound, but it’s still totally us, especially with the harmonies. We’re just stoked to keep putting out stuff like this—people never know what they’re gonna get with us!”
“Look My Way” is available to stream everywhere tomorrow. Moonshine, the new album, drops on March 14 via Nether Hour Family Records.
