The Grateful Dead and Phish are two bands that eerily resemble that of a cult. Their fans are steadfast, and fervent, and seem never to betray the jam band genre the two legendary groups have created and cultivated. If you are someone who fits into this category, you should be proud, as there is not a more loyal fan base in music. However, you might be grasping at straws to find other bands to listen to at the moment.

The Grateful Dead and Phish never get old thanks to their thousands of live recordings and reimaged songs. Although, it never hurts to listen to something new, and in a world where jam band music is few and far between, it’s hard to find acts that live up to the pinnacle of the genre. So, to help you out, here are three bands you should listen to if you’re looking for just that.
Goose
By no means is Goose an obscure band, as they have been on the popular music circuit since their founding in 2014. Hailing from Conneticut, the band takes on a nostaligaclly fresh sound that encompasses new and old school techinqus and structures. Their song’s”Madhuvan” and “Hungersite” are psychedelic masterpieces.
Bands such as Goose simply don’t get the recognition they deserve, and that is partially because of the refined taste it takes to enjoy music such as their. Their business and musical model somewhat resembles the Grateful Dead and Phish, so they are perfect avenue for you jam band nuts.
Eggy
Eggy has been a focal part of the jam band scene ever since their activation in 2016. Frankly, and you jam band fans already know this, but the only way to see these guys are live. When they aren’t performing at festivals, the band typically sticks to breweries, tap houses, and smaller intimate venues for the most beneficial listening experience.
Of course, making money is important for these musicians, however, it seems their premier desire is to restore and revitalize the music that has seemingly taken a back seat since Phish and the Grateful Dead became a bit more obscure. And they are achieving just that with singles such as “Broken Bluff” and “Evergreen.”
Umphrey’s McGee
With Umphrey’s McGee, the question isnt’ what music do they play? Rather, it’s what music don’t they play? Their styles infuses blues, bluegrass, jazz, metal, funk, reggae, and seemingly any other genre that’s so much has the inkling of a funky sound. They are truly masters of their craft, and despite doing it since 1997, they are criminally underrated.
They are weird, quirky, and unexpectedly original and all of the right ways. Frankly, and this might be an overstatement, but these guys are seemingly having the most fun in the music industry at the moment. Their songs “Can’t Rock My Dream Face” and “Puppet String” will tickle your ear drums and cerebellum in a fashion you may not have known existed.
