Grant Michaels Talks Working With Gen Z
As of late, he’s decided to lend his talents to some of Gen Z’s biggest rising stars, including the “genre-defying” Grabbitz and the “timeless” Ryan Perdz. During a conversation with American Songwriter, Michaels predicted big things ahead for the two TikTokers.
Fresh off of the release of Grabbitz’s album, Big Epic Nothing, Michaels had nothing but praise for the artist.
“[He is] super talented and [has an] amazing voice and is limitless musically,” Michaels said. “He just released his album this week on his own Blue Butterfly Records. It’s genre defying. [It has] different tempos, different feels. It’s just so limitless and awesome. I think it can reach the whole world and beyond, because it’s for everybody.”
He’s equally confident in the future success of Perdz, who boasts more than one million followers on TikTok.
“His voice is incredible. He’s a timeless singer. He’s from, like, all these generations. It’s so, so cool,” Michaels said. “It’s like a little grunge, a little rock.”
Michaels went on to applaud Perdz and other developing stars for their ingenuity in self-promotion via social media.
“People reach the whole world every day with their music. It’s such a special time for that,” Michaels said, before noting of Perdz specifically, “He performs live on TikTok every week. That’s his concert. He’s been building it and building it. He has such a great fan base and is just such an incredible talent.”
In the coming months, Michaels promised that there will be several “really, really exciting, exciting things” coming out. From working with producer Gregg Wattenberg to continued collaborations with Hollander, Grabbitz, and Perdz, Michaels said he’s “so pumped” about what’s in store.
“The beautiful thing about music, and songwriting, and collaboration is we could always have fun doing it. Forever. We get to wake up every day and do it. It’s such a blessing,” he said. “… Music is amazing and it makes the world go round.”
