On September 11, Jay-Z will release The Blueprint 3, eight years to the day of the release of his double platinum album The Blueprint. Fresh from his $5 million split from Def Jam Records (the amount the rapper paid to buy out of his contract), Jay-Z will release the album on his own Roc Nation label. Atlantic Records will handle distribution.

On Friday night, New York’s Hot 97 radio station premiered a new track from the album, titled “D.O.A.” or “The Death of Autotune.” Later, Jay-Z called the station to explain his stance on the popular vocal plug-in saying, “The guys who did it, did it great. T-Pain, he does great melodies. If you listen to Kanye, great melodies. Everybody can’t do it. Let them guys do it. They got their little niche, let’s move on.” Jay-Z’s hope is to “draw [a] line in the sand” so that rappers can begin “moving [the conversation] forward.”

Following his comments about “D.O.A.,” Jay-Z hyped The Blueprint 3 further, saying, “The vibe I’m on is, stripping it down and bringing it back classic.”

In the coming weeks, fans can expect to hear more from the album, as DJ Skee reported via Twitter that “On That” featuring Drake would be the first official single.
