Jimmy Page, Witches, and the Occult: Why David Bowie Kept His Urine Under Lock and Key

In the 70s, David Bowie‘s persona was synonymous with a Jackson Pollock painting. He was eccentrically spiradic, colorfully arbitrary, and generally just flat out weird. But, hey, that’s why folks loved him and why folks continue to love him, as he tricked people into trying to understand the unintelligible. This facet of Bowie’s character was an intrinsic part of his being, but what also amplified it was his drug use, specifically, c—ne.

David Bowie’s diet in the 70s reportedly consisted of red peppers, milk, and pure Colombian powder. Due to the substantial amount of uppers in his system, David Bowie’s already eccentric personality grew to be more eccentric, and consequently, the white stuff plagued Bowie with intense bouts of drug-induced paranoia.

As most people with paranoia do, Bowie performed odd behaviors to subdue his drug-fueled worries. Now, one of the odder drug-fueled behaviors Bowie executed was storing his urine in a refrigerator. As the legend goes, Bowie did this because he was concerned that witches were out to drain him of his fluid and, as a result, drain him of his purity. As backwards as this sounds, Bowie did have a reason, though, that reason was a bit backwards as well.

David Bowie Believed Jimmy Page Had Deep Ties to Black Magic

As the story goes, sometime in the 70s, Jimmy Page and David Bowie had a falling out after the Led Zeppelin guitarist spilled a glass of wine in Bowie’s residence. Already plagued with c—ne infused anxiety about Page, Bowie seemingly saw this as a sign, and subsequently, he was on the outs with Jimmy Page, as reported in the biography, David Bowie: Starman.

Bowie reportedly believed Page had ties to the occult and black magic underworld, given that he was interested in the teachings of the famed occultist, Aleister Crowley. That being so, Bowie thought Page had put out an evil magic hit on him, which would be executed via witches.

So, like any person under the influence of hard drugs, Bowie took serious yet to the sober mind, impractical precautions. Allegedly, Bowie had his home exorcised and started filling jugs full of his urine to keep his soul pure and out of the hands of witches, who may try to use it in some type of ceremony. As far as we know, Page’s magical curse never came to fruition.

If this legend teaches you anything, it should teach you this: If you are under threat of black magic, keep your bodily fluids safe and sound. Also, Bowie would probably tell you to stay away from the hard stuff.
