“Johnny Would of Been Proud of This One”: Lainey Wilson Covers a Johnny Cash Classic With Red Clay Strays’ Brandon Coleman

While spending years trying to break into country music, once Lainey Wilson found her footing, she wasted no time. Quickly becoming a top name in the genre, the singer has released several studio albums, appeared in the hit show Yellowstone, and hit the road with her Country’s Cool Again Tour. And during that time, she stacked up several awards, including a Grammy for Best Country Album with Bell Bottom Country. But recently, the country star decided not to shine a light on herself as she shared the stage with Red Clay Strays’ Brandon Coleman for a special performance of “God’s Gonna Cut You Down.”

Although Wilson continued to helm her Whirlwind World Tour, the country singer took the stage at Ottawa Bluesfest on July 10th. Thrilled for the opportunity, Wilson entertained thousands of fans in attendance. But for most, the top moment came when she welcomed Coleman to the stage. While “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” was recorded numerous times by different artists, Johnny Cash brought new life to the classic during the early 2000s.
