Today (tomorrow in the U.S.), London label faves Bella Union give us Thousands’ The Sound Of Everything. That’s an apt title for this Fleet Foxes-approved Seattle duo, both because they channel Simon & Garfunkel’s acoustic finger-picked guitars and vocal harmonies (“sounds of silence,” natch) but also captured “everything” by recording outdoors along the coast of the Pacific Northwest. “MTSES III” opens with the gentle hiss of air (which permeates the track) and a few choice bird squawks (ornithologists take note). “We were the sons of solitude,” Kristian Garrard and Luke Berman sing over a melody that hints at both Brill Building songcraft and Gillian Welch-esque Appalachian modalities.
