Yesterday, our doorbell rang. It was the UPS guy, with a box full of Beatles CDs.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it’s true. The long-awaited digitally remastered Beatles catalog won’t officially be in stores until 9.09.09, but if you’re one of a select few, (record reviewers, music moguls, Yoko Ono’s limo driver), your birthday was officially yesterday.

You can read our full review in the upcoming issue of American Songwriter, but one thing we can tell you right now: they sound amazing.

The major sonic upgrade will give you a new reason to listen to these familiar classics all over again. They may also compel you to pick up the missing pieces in your collection — how many of you actually own a copy of Please Please Me?

To while away the time between now and the official release date, here’s a trivia question for you:

The iconic cover of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band depicts images of artists, writers, actors and athletes. One such figure actually appears on the cover three times. Who is it?

(Hint: it’s not one of the Beatles)

  1. I want to know what AS staffer is hogging this collection? Is it the hog himself? Shane, perhaps? The newlywed? Who gets to take it home this weekend for review? There needs to be a listening party.

Also, is Let it Be…Naked included?
