Pearl Jam To Play New Songs on Tonight Show

On February 20, Conan O’Brien signed off as host of Late Night. His final program featured the White Stripes and comedian Will Ferrell. On June 1, O’Brien will move from New York to Los Angeles to replace Jay Leno as the host of The Tonight Show. As that date gets closer, the network has filled The Tonight Show’s web page with rehearsal updates and glimpses into the inaugural show, including celebrity commercials.

Yesterday, NBC blogger Aaron Bleyaert confirmed that Will Ferrell and Pearl Jam are scheduled as the first guests, while also commenting, “How awesome is that?!??” before answering with, “I’ll tell you: MUCHO AWESOME.”

On their website, Pearl Jam confirmed that they would be appearing on Conan’s opening night to play songs from their upcoming ninth studio album. Pearl Jam is currently in Atlanta working on the album with producer Brendan O’Brien, who has produced the band on four other albums, most recently 1998’s Yield. Current plans are for the band to release the yet untitled album sometime this fall. In the meantime, fans can hear the new material this summer when Pearl Jam headlines the Austin City Limits Festival and the Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco.
