Tasked with managing unruly crowds, security personnel have a difficult job, particularly at live concerts. Country star Morgan Wallen very nearly swore off the state Arizona for life following a particularly raucous crowd along his I’m the Problem tour. Recently, one security guard at a Jelly Roll concert had enough of the job and apparently quit on the spot. However, his decision had little to do with the crowd.

According to footage shared by TikTok user Michelle Mulligan, a man in a wheelchair moved in front of a barricade to get a better view of Jelly Roll’s “Smoking Section” performance during his July 20 set at the North Dakota State Fair.
Typically, concertgoers must remain behind such barriers for safety purposes. So a supervisor walked over and told the nearby security guard to make the man move behind the gate.
When the security guard refused, his supervisor told him he was fired. Instead, Mulligan wrote, he removed his vest, chucked it at his boss, and declared he was quitting.
“was the coolest thing besides getting to actually see Jelly again!” Mulligan wrote. “he deserves so much more than that!”
In the comments, social media users praised the (now-former?) security guard for his “heart of gold.”
“good for him I know this would be @Bunnie Xo 🪄 approved,” wrote one TikTok user, referring to the “Need a Favor” singer’s podcaster wife.
Jelly Roll Fan Had “The Time of His Life”
According to Mulligan, a supervisor gave the security guard’s replacement the same directive to make the man move. However, “he said he couldn’t do that so he just let him,” she wrote in a comment.
Later, Mulligan shared a second video that showed the man enjoying Jelly Roll’s performance of “I Am Not Okay” from his vantage point in front of the barricade. “props to the 2 security guards and hope that boy had the time of his life,” one TikTok user commented.
Another social media user took the opportunity to bring up the subject of equal access for those with disabilities at music venues. “as a wheelchair user the amount of venues who dont have ada compliant seating is crazy!!” they wrote. “even after advocating there is never any change to make it better.”
