NPR is currently streaming Demos, the latest record from ’60s stalwarts Crosby, Stills and Nash. Due out in June, Demos is a single-disc collection of rare and previously unheard CSN demos from their classic, original run. Many songs are performed solo: “Almost Cut My Hair,” heard here as a David Crosby solo performance, is truly majestic. Then there’s “Long Time Gone,” featuring the weaving vocals of Stephen Stills and David Crosby, recorded four months before Nash joined the group.

The archival album serves as an appetite-whetter for their upcoming all-covers album CSN cut with producer Rick Rubin for Columbia, due later this year.

CSN will be inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame in June, where the band’s individual members will also be honored for their contributions to the Byrds (Crosby) the Hollies (Nash) and Buffalo Springfield (Stills.)

“‘I’ve Seen Crosby, Stills and Nash burnin’ ass,’ Jimi Hendrix declared in 1969. ‘They’re groovy, Western-sky music.’
