This is fun stuff, folks. The Silver Seas produce songs like the USA TODAY presents news: short and snappy. Here’s the skinny-there’s nothing particularly revelatory about High Society, but followers of 1970s melodic pop will devour it. Lyrics are as hopeful and jaunty as the rhythm section’s contagious shuffle. “I was stranded in the middle of the night/I was washed out to sea,” Daniel Tashian sings on “Imaginary Girl.” “Out of the water you appear like a dream to me/And I want to thank you.” Sure, these songs are as saccharine as “Afternoon Delight,” but they’re equally cheeky, too. Advice: Let The Silver Seas float you into the clouds. After all, spending half an hour in a happier reality isn’t a bad idea today.
