Once Roger Waters left Pink Floyd in 1985, the band lost a piece of its dynamic. Though David Gilmour, Nick Mason, and Richard Wright continued touring through 1994 and released The Division Bell, all four members only reunited for the first time in 24 years, and it was their last.
Running July 2-6, 2005, Live 8 marked the 20th anniversary of the original Live Aid and helped raise money to combat poverty, welcoming Paul McCartney, Madonna, Elton John, U2, R.E.M., Annie Lennox, Mariah Carey, Coldplay, Green Day, and The Killers, among other artists during the concert.
On July 2, Pink Floyd also performed a five-song set at Hyde Park in London for the global awareness concert Live 8.

“Breathe” to “Comfortably Numb”
Throughout Pink Floyd’s set, the band opened on “Breathe (In the Air)” and into its “Reprise,” followed “by “Money” and the band’s Syd Barrett tribute, “Wish You Were Here,” before closing on “Comfortably Numb.”
After the first opening notes of “Wish You Were Here” were played on guitar, Waters told the audience, “It’s actually quite amazing standing up here with these three guys and standing to be counted with the rest of you. Anyway, we’re doing this for everyone who’s not here, particularly of course Syd.”
The Madcap’s Last Laugh
Though the 2005 concert was the final concert performed by all four members of Pink Floyd, they united once again on May 10, 2007, for The Madcap’s Last Laugh, a tribute concert at the Barbican in London, honoring the band’s co-founder Syd Barrett, who died in 2006 at age 60. Since tensions were high within the band, Waters performed his song “Flickering Flame” on his own before Gilmour, Mason, and Wright came out together, joined by Oasis‘ Andy Bell on bass, and delivered a semi-Pink Floyd reunion.
Together, they performed an early song written by Barrett, the band’s debut single, “Arnold Layne” from 1967, released several months before Pink Floyd’s first album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Jon Carin joined the band on keyboards, while Wright took over Barrett’s lead vocals.
Before his death on September 15, 2008, at age 68, Wright gave his final performance with Gilmour on September 6, 2007 at the Odeon in London. Wright made a surprise performance on Gilmour’s On the Island track “Island Jam,” and both were joined by Carin, Phil Manzanera, Dick Parry, Guy Pratt, and Steve DiStanislao, for the jam out.
