In 2023, Dolly Parton released one of the most star-studded albums of all time. This was the Rockstar album, which featured some of the most iconic musicians to ever grace the stage. The icons featured on this album include Paul McCartney, Sting, Steve Perry, Stevie Nicks, Elton John, Ringo Starr, Joan Jett, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and several other legends. Needless to say, it was a family affair. Though, the album is missing one major rock legend, and that legend is Mick Jagger.

Given the roster of artists on this album, it seems Jagger’s participation would be a given. Well, it was, as Dolly Parton fervently tried to feature him in the body of work. Specifically, Parton wanted to record a duet cover of The Rolling Stones’ hit classic, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”. However, this was unable to occur. Now, it wasn’t for any disagreements, rather, it was simply a logistical issue.
The Dates Just Didn’t Match up for Jagger and Dolly Parton
During Parton’s press tour for the album, she sat down with ET Canada and divulged why Mick Jagger wasn’t able to participate in Rockstar.
“He didn’t say no,” she told the publication. “He was doing an album. We just kept trying to figure out the song. I wanted to do ‘Satisfaction’. I did it, but I did it with Pink and Brandi Carlile, and it turned out fantastic, so I was kinda glad he didn’t sing that one.”
“But then I wrote one in his field, and he didn’t care for that one,” Parton continued. “I [was] just trying to come up with songs, and he kept trying to find time to do something, but then we ran out of time.”
In a separate interview with USA Today, Parton jokingly added that she is “still waiting for Mick to come on back. He might come through. If not, I’ll kick his bony a— when I see him!”
As cool as a Mick Jagger and Dolly Parton duet would have been, it is fair to say that Parton’s 2023 album still features more than enough firepower. Regardless, what a shame, as this would have been a collaboration for the ages. However, neither of these artists is seemingly slowing down. So, who knows? Maybe they will be able to connect for a song before they both call it quits. Which, from the looks of it, will be no time soon.
