2007 Shortlist Prize Nominees Announced

Santa made his list and checked it twice… But while ol’ Saint Nick kicks back with Mrs. Claus, the Shortlist Organization “Listmakers” have only begun to narrow the nominee pool for their annual music prize. The Shortlist Prize, first given in 2001, recognizes an album released between January and November of the previous year that has yet to be certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America for U.S. shipments of 500,000 at the time of nomination.

A group of musicians, producers and journalists, dubbed “listmakers,” determine the winning album each year; previous panels have included Beck, Tori Amos, Dave Matthews, and members of The Roots, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica, and The Cure. Winning albums of yesteryear have included cuts by Damien Rice, Sigur Ros, N.E.R.D., TV on the Radio, Sufjan Stevens and Cat Power. This year’s list of nominations includes albums by Arcade Fire, Blonde Redhead, Feist, Gogol Bordello, and Wilco, among others.
