Influences can come from unexpected places. For country singer-songwriter Aubrie Sellers, they come from fellow country artists like Loretta Lynn and George Jones, but also, as it turns out, from poppier acts like Coldplay.

Sellers and her band crammed into the back of a van to perform one of their favorite Coldplay songs, “Green Eyes.” Steel guitar and string lights make for a sultry take on the sweet love song, which comes from the band’s 2002 album A Rush of Blood to the Head. Sellers’ emotive vocals perfectly complement the song’s heartfelt lyrics.

“My influences are all over the place and I have always been a massive fan of Coldplay and Chris Martin’s melodies,” Sellers says. “When I heard ‘Green Eyes’ I immediately heard steel guitar in the background and thought it would be a great country song. I love being able to take songs like that and share them the way I hear them in my head.”

Sellers is currently touring with Miranda Lambert, playing cuts from her 2016 album New City Blues. Check out dates here.
