The 80s were a time of decadence and luxury. However, it wasn’t ever necessarily associated with country music. Rather, the decade was associated with pop groups, boy bands, and other musical acts who lit up the stage and screen with their grand performance techniques. Although, believe it or not, there was some phenomenal country music to come out of the 80s.

Thanks to the other cultural facets of the decade, 1980s country certainly takes a backseat in regard to the decade. That being said, the masses have seemingly missed out on some of the greatest country songs of all time. However, that will no longer be the case, as here are three 80s country songs that have stood the test of time.
“Forever And Ever, Amen” by Randy Travis
Okay, this song is far from forgotten, but a quick refresher never hurts anyone. “Forever And Ever, Amen” by Randy Travis is unarguably the country musician’s most successful song and is also arguably the most successful country song of the 80s.
Following its 1987 release, “Forever And Ever, Amen” peaked at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country charts and remained at the top for a total of three weeks. Not only is this one of the greatest 80s country music songs of all time, but it is also just one of the greatest country songs of all time.
“Dixieland Delight” by Alabama
If you’ve ever been to a party in the South, then you have surely heard Alabama‘s iconic single, “Dixieland Delight”. The song itself is conducive to a great afternoon full of good conversation, good friends, and the best of times. It is truly one of the most prolific and successful country music songs of all time.
After its release in 1983, Alabama’s hit single peaked at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Charts. Though, more importantly, it has remained a staple tune in the world of country music. And it has been passed on generation after generation.
“Amarillo By Morning” by George Strait
George Strait is arguably the king of country music. Hence, it is not surprising that one of the biggest country music hits of the 80s came from one of the three gods of Texas. The man has a surplus of hit material. And that catalog includes his hit song, “Amarillo by Morning”.
“Amarillo by Morning” was released in 1982 and peaked at no. 4 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Even though it didn’t reach no. 1, it still serves as a signature song for both George Strait and country music fans all over the world.
