3 One-Hit Wonders From the 1990s That Will Give You Chills

Some songs just make you feel a certain type of way. They not only entertain, but they can make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. They can make you feel shivers down your spine. A song can make you tap your toes, but it can also give you the chills—that soothing feeling that runs up and down from head to toe. But what songs are good examples of this chill-inducing phenomenon? We wanted to explore three offerings from the 1990s. More specifically, three one-hit wonders from the decade that we think will simply put that breezy buzz in your bones.

“Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat)” by Digable Planets from ‘Reachin’ (A New Refutation Of Time And Space)’ (1992)

There is just something about the sonic quality of this song. From the walking upright bass to the soothing vocals of rappers like Ishmael Butler. Digable Planets created a genius, chilling song with this hip-hop and jazz crossover. And we’re not the only ones who thought so! The track, which hit No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100, also earned the group a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. Put it on and let the lovely sonics wash over you like an embrace.

“Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” by Crash Test Dummies from ‘God Shuffled His Feet’ (1993)

This track from the Canadian-born band Crash Test Dummies hit No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and for good reason. Not only does it elucidate three interesting stories about three young people and their surroundings at school, home, or church. But it also features the deep, resonant singing voice of frontman Brad Roberts, which is enough to make you feel soothed and relaxed. The song somehow just feels like a fall sweater and a bowl of tomato soup.

“I Touch Myself” by Divinyls from ‘Divinyls’ (1990)

While the sexual nature of this entry on our list of one-hit wonders might raise some eyebrows, there is also a sonic quality of this tune, which hit No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, that makes you feel awash in pleasant energy. The breathy vocals from lead singer Chrissy Amphlett just make you feel that type of way that gets you all tingly and smiley. But you might want to check this tune out alone at home!
