These three one-hit wonders feature lyrics that make zero sense, but weโre not exactly mad about it. Despite being kind of difficult to understand (if there even is anything to understand), these three tracks were bops when they were first released. Letโs dive in, shall we?
1. โSurfinโ Birdโ by The Trashmen
Who doesnโt love a little โSurfinโ Birdโ? The 1963 surf rock anthem from The Trashmen was a huge hit when it was first released. It climbed to no. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart that very year. The lyrics of this song are more or less nonsensical, though some speculate that the โbirdโ in question is simply slang for โgossipโ.

Havenโt you heard about the bird? As The Trashmen said quite eloquently, over and over again: โBirdโs the word.โ
2. โThe Ketchup Song (Aserejรฉ)โ by Las Ketchup
โThe Ketchup Songโ is probably one of the most well-known examples of one-hit wonders that make zero sense in a language that isnโt English. This song is tentatively titled โThe Ketchup Song (Aserejรฉ)โ and was released by Spanish pop outfit Las Ketchup. So, obviously, the song is about a particular red condiment, right? Wrong!
The lyrics of this Spanish tune are completely nonsensical, and that nonsense makes it to the Spanglish version of the tune as well. Itโs definitely a novelty song, but it did get a massive amount of success on the Europop charts and made it to no. 1 on countless international charts in 2002โฆ though it only made it to no. 54 in the US.
3. โBlue (Da Ba Dee)โ by Eiffel 65
This oneโs a bit of a technicality on our list of one-hit wonders with lyrics that make zero sense. Italian Eurodance outfit Eiffel 65 has enjoyed quite a few hits throughout their career in their native Italy, as well as Europe as a whole. A few chart-topping follow-ups include โToo Much Of Heavenโ and โMove Your Bodyโ. However, โBlueโ was the outfitโs only chart-topping Top 10 hit in the United States, so weโll include it here.
โBlue (Da Ba Dee)โ features a few nonsensical lines, particularly gems like โI’m blue / Da ba dee da ba diโ. What does it mean? Who knows! Itโs still a bop, and even got a reimagined cover that topped the charts recently.ย
